Damaged Engine Block Repair - RA Power Solutions

A diesel power plant in South America, operating Wartsila 12V32 and Wartsila 18V32 generator sets, recently contacted RA Power Solutions for support. A serious accident occurred due to a cylinder liner failure, causing extensive damage to several parts, including the upper and lower engine blocks of the Wartsila 18V32 engine. RA Power Solutions’ technicians investigated the issue and found that both engine blocks had multiple severe cracks totaling 2900 mm, along with broken casting pieces measuring 300 × 460 mm. After evaluating different solutions, replacing the upper and lower crankcases was considered, but it was extremely expensive and would take about nine months for delivery. Instead, RA Power Solutions suggested repairing the cracks and damaged areas using metal stitching and metal locking , a cold repair process.
